Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's initial attempts at becoming famous in the mainstream did not succeed. She has been signed by 2 different recording companies, but was dropped before she released any songs. Capitol Records, however, released Perry's Ur So Gay album in 2007 which was received with moderate success with the track that was its title. Perry became a bigger star a few months later, with the single I Kissed a Girl an assertive ode to sexual curiosity backed by a hard-edged electro-pop beat. The song was controversial and critics were critical of the song for promoting relationships between gay men as well as others who claimed it depicted a sexually explicit scene which appealed to men's fantasies about sexuality in women. I Kissed a Girl, a combination of titillation coupled with a sophisticated tune, allowed I Kissed a Girl to achieve the number one spot in a variety of countries, and to drive sales for her album, One of the Boys. Hot N Cold was a success in the United States, and the second track on the album Hot N Cold with its interesting bouncy, sharp tongued beat became popular.
